Moritz Moll
German
b. 1991
Biography
In his paintings, Moritz explores the in-between spaces of the everyday, intimate moments of being unobserved, of drifting away, of concentration.
Moritz Moll, a German painter, graduated in 2021 in Studies of Fine Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (AdBK). The emerging artist has shown in various exhibitions across Europe, including two group shows with Maddox Gallery in London in 2023. This is Moll's first solo exhibition with Maddox Gallery, who now represents him exclusively in the UK and Switzerland.
Through the use of oil and acrylics on canvas, the artist captures the intimacy of the mundane. His works transport the viewer into quiet yet vibrant daydreams. Moll balances his subjects between consciousness and a dreamlike state through the juxtaposition of neutral space and fine lines. The viewer is thus able to explore the spaces in the everyday, moments in which one is unobserved and drifting away.
The artist’s work is characterised by a sensitive colour palette and his subjects brought to life through layers and textures, accompanied by sketchy brushstrokes applied in swift and loose motions. Moll examines both the form and material of his subjects by a play on two- and three-dimensionality, sending his viewer on a visual excursion.
